Build real offshore miles sailing from the U.S. Virgin Islands to Georgetown, Bahamas aboard Tiger Lily.
This approximately 700-mile passage offers several days of open-water sailing and the chance to experience the routines and decision-making that come with a true offshore passage. Our goal is to sail through to the Bahamas, but the islands along the route give us options to alter course or seek shelter if a strong front or unfavorable conditions develop.
For anyone looking to build offshore experience, this is a great opportunity on our schedule.

Life offshore has a different pace. Days and nights revolve around the weather, watches, sail changes, meals, rest and keeping the boat moving efficiently toward our destination.
Guests become part of that process: standing watches, helming day and night, trimming sails, following the forecast and helping make the decisions that shape the passage.
This isn't about simply accumulating miles. It's about learning what it actually feels like to live aboard and manage a cruising boat underway for several days at a time.

This passage is especially well suited to sailors looking to build offshore miles and passage-making experience.
Training may include passage planning, weather routing, watchstanding, night sailing, navigation, sail selection and trim, reefing, boat systems and the everyday management of a boat at sea.
You’ll also experience the less obvious side of offshore sailing, managing energy, rest, meals, changing conditions and crew communication over multiple days underway.

We’ll begin in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with time to settle aboard Tiger Lily, safety briefing, boat overview, prepare the boat and review the weather and passage plan before departure.
From there, we’ll head northwest toward Georgetown in the Exumas.
Our intention is to make the passage without scheduled stops, but offshore sailing requires flexibility. If a strong front develops or conditions make it prudent, the islands along our route give us opportunities to adjust the plan, wait for better weather and then continue toward the Bahamas.
That weather routing and decision-making is an important part of the experience itself.

Late April and early May can offer excellent sailing between the Caribbean and Bahamas, but the weather can be varied.
Trade winds may provide favorable sailing for much of the route, while stronger fronts can still move through the region. We’ll watch the forecast carefully and adjust our departure, routing or stopping options as conditions develop.

This is a one-way offshore passage, beginning in the U.S. Virgin Islands and finishing in Georgetown, Great Exuma.

We recommend arriving in the USVI at least one day before boarding to settle in. Because offshore arrival times are always weather-dependent, we strongly recommend flexible travel arrangements.

Our prices are all-inclusive once aboard, covering meals, snacks, refreshments, evening sundowners, and mooring or docking fees.
Not included: Transportation to/from the program and meals/drinks ashore.
