Sail approximately 1,000 nautical miles from the Bahamas to Newport, Rhode Island aboard Tiger Lily on one of our most complete offshore passage experiences.

We’ll head north from the Bahamas and work our way into the Gulf Stream, using its powerful northbound current to help carry us up the U.S. East Coast the “magic carpet ride” north.

This is real offshore sailing: multiple days and nights underway, changing weather, watchstanding and the decisions that come with moving a boat a long distance at sea.

This passage is for sailors who want real offshore miles and the experience that comes with them.
Days and nights settle into life underway: standing watches, helming, trimming sails, monitoring weather, navigating and adapting the plan as conditions change. You’ll experience firsthand how the crew manages the boat, themselves and each other over several consecutive days at sea.
The Gulf Stream adds another dimension. Finding it, deciding where to enter and how long to stay in it all become part of the passage strategy as we work our way north.
This is one of our best passages for offshore mile building and passage-making experience.
Training may include passage planning, Gulf Stream routing, weather interpretation, navigation, night sailing, watchstanding, sail selection and trim, reefing, boat systems and offshore decision-making.
Just as importantly, you’ll learn about the human side of passagemaking: sleep, meals, communication, energy management and keeping an effective watch routine over multiple days at sea.
We’ll begin in the Bahamas, preparing Tiger Lily, starting with a safety briefing, boat overview and reviewing the weather before heading offshore toward Newport.
The goal is to take advantage of the Gulf Stream for much of our northbound journey. As we approach Cape Hatteras, weather becomes an especially important part of our planning. If a strong system is moving through, we have options to leave the offshore route, tuck into a protected harbor and wait for a better window before continuing north.
There is no scheduled island-hopping or sightseeing route on this trip. The itinerary is driven by weather, current and seamanship, and learning how those pieces come together is a big part of the experience.
Late May and early June can bring a wide range of conditions along the U.S. East Coast, which makes weather routing an important part of this passage.
We’ll watch both the forecast and Gulf Stream position closely, particularly as we approach Cape Hatteras. A favorable window may allow us to keep moving north, while stronger weather may mean changing course, slowing down or heading into a protected harbor until conditions improve.
That flexibility isn’t a disruption to the experience, it is part of safe offshore passage making.
This is a one-way offshore passage, beginning in Nassau, Bahamas and finishing in Newport, Rhode Island.

Please book local accommodations for the evening prior to and after, our planned departure / arrival. Flexible bookings are always prefered, though we do our best to depart and arrive on schedule.
Our pricing is all-inclusive once onboard, meals, snacks, drinks, sail training, and mooring fees are all covered.
Not included: Travel to/from the boat, and any meals or drinks ashore.
