Details:
Sail south through the Windward Islands aboard Tiger Lily, beginning in Martinique and finishing in Bequia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Over eight days, we’ll make our way down the island chain with possible stops in St. Lucia and St. Vincent, combining longer inter-island sailing legs with time at anchor, swimming, exploring ashore and enjoying life aboard.
This is a great trip for anyone looking for a little more sailing in their week while still having plenty of time to enjoy the islands along the way.
-
There is something special about leaving one island behind and watching the next slowly appear on the horizon.
This trip gives us several opportunities for longer stretches under sail, making it a natural environment to get more involved with helming, sail trim, navigation, weather and passage planning. Between sailing legs, we’ll slow things down with time at anchor, swimming, snorkeling and exploring ashore.
By the end of the week, we won’t simply have visited the islands we’ll have sailed our way through them.
-
Training is hands-on and tailored to your experience and interests.
Throughout the week, you can become involved with helming, sail handling and trim, navigation, weather and route planning, anchoring, boat systems and passage preparation.
The longer passages between islands make this trip especially good for anyone wanting to build experience beyond short coastal day sails.
-
Our first day begins aboard Tiger Lily in Martinique, with time to settle in, get familiar with the boat and complete our safety orientation before getting underway.
From there, our route south may include:
St. Lucia: with the possibility of sailing beneath the Pitons and stopping in one of the island’s dramatic west-coast anchorages.
St. Vincent: a mountainous, less-traveled island that offers some beautiful stops along our route south.
Bequia: our final destination and the gateway to the Grenadines, with a relaxed waterfront, great anchorage and plenty to explore ashore.
As always, the exact route will depend on the winds, sea state and forecast. We’ll choose the stops that give us the best balance of good sailing and time to enjoy where we are.
-
February is typically an excellent month for sailing the Windward Islands, with warm temperatures, warm water and established easterly trade winds.
The open water between the islands can bring stronger breeze and a livelier sea state than sailing within a protected island group, which is part of what makes this such a good sailing-focused week.
