Details:

Most “girls’ trips” at sea are about cocktails and photos. This is different. Outer Passage is a sail‑training program first, you’ll trim sails, take the helm, practice mooring and anchoring, and learn passage planning in a supportive, women‑centered environment. Our women instructors will tailor the coaching to your experience and goals. And because learning and fun belong together, we balance the coaching with time to relax: stretch, swim and snorkel, go for a hike, then enjoy sundowners once we’re secured for the night, with unhurried cockpit dinners. Come for the skills; leave with confidence, new friends, and memories that outlast your tan.

This trip is designed for women who…

  • Women who want real time on the wheel and on the lines (beginners welcome)

  • Future owners wanting instruction on a performance catamaran

  • Solo travelers seeking a supportive, small‑group vibe

  • Friends, sisters, or mother‑daughter pairs who want to learn together

  • Designed to build real competence at the helm without losing the joy of cruising, turquoise anchorages, sea‑turtle swims, and sundowners.

    • Hands-on sailing & coaching: helm confidence, sail trim, reefing, tacking and controlled gybes

    • Mooring & anchoring: picking up moorings, setting/re‑setting the anchor, scope & swing room

    • Navigation & weather: route and anchorage based on the forecasted weather and current conditions

    • Crew & communication: assigning roles, and decision‑making underway

    • Daily sail + shore time: we get underway every day, and still leave space to explore ashore, snorkel sessions, beach walks, swims, and short hikes when conditions allow

    • Sunrise stretch / yoga on deck

    • Shared meals, shared stories: family‑style dinners in the cockpit, easy lunches underway, and one casual meal ashore (schedule permitting).

  • Our route will adapt to the weather and group goals, but possible stops include:

    • St. Thomas – Where the journey begins, with beautiful bays and lively marinas

    • Christmas Cove – A protected anchorage perfect for your first night on anchor

    • Maho or Francis Bay – Calm waters for swimming, frequent turtles, hiking trails and star-gazing.

    • Salt Pond or Lameshur Bay – Quiet, off-the-beaten-path anchorages

    • Leinster Bay / Waterlemon Cay — Classic snorkel reef plus a short walk to the Annaberg ruins.

Expect 3–5 hours of sailing each day, with time to swim, explore ashore, or relax on deck. Our flexible itinerary balances skill-building with island time.

  • The U.S. Virgin Islands enjoy reliable trade winds and warm tropical weather year-round, making them ideal for sailing. Expect steady easterly winds ranging from 10–20 knots, perfect for skill-building under sail. Occasional passing showers help keep the islands lush but rarely disrupt the day. Our route and daily plans are always flexible, shaped by the conditions to ensure safe, comfortable, and rewarding time on the water.
