Boat: Pressure Drop
Crew: Elliot, Anais & North
Details:
Join Pressure Drop for a true Mediterranean adventure, a seven-day passage from Mallorca to Cannes, combining a short open-water sailing passage with coastal exploration. This voyage offers the best of both worlds: days under sail across the Balearic and Ligurian Seas, followed by anchorages in some of the Med’s most stunning coastal towns. It’s a journey of movement, discovery, and life at sea, ideal for sailors eager to experience a real passage while still enjoying the comfort and rhythm of cruising life aboard a Balance catamaran.
-
This passage blends hands-on sailing with moments of pure Mediterranean cruising life. You’ll help plan the route, set sails, and stand watch as we make the offshore leg from Mallorca toward the French Riviera and then slow the pace as we explore anchorages along the Côte d’Azur. Between sailing and exploring, enjoy shared meals on deck, sunset swims, and the camaraderie that only life offshore can create. Whether you’re here to build confidence or simply to experience the freedom of passagemaking, this trip will stay with you long after landfall.
-
Exact routing will depend on the weather, but you can expect a mix of passage sailing and coastal cruising. Highlights may include:
Departure from Palma, Mallorca: systems checks, provisioning, and preparation for the crossing
Open-water passage: sail north across the Balearic Sea, learning passage planning, watchkeeping, and weather strategy
Landfall on the French Riviera: celebrate with your first café or croissant ashore
Îles d’Hyères or Porquerolles: swim in crystal-clear waters off this protected island chain
Cannes: finish the passage in style, exploring the Old Port, cafés, and lively waterfront
-
While this trip is not a formal course, it’s a perfect opportunity to experience the rhythm of offshore sailing and build real confidence at sea. You’ll take part in:
Passage planning and weather routing
Watchkeeping and night sailing
Sail trim and reefing for long passages
Navigation and route adjustments underway
Anchoring, mooring, and coastal entry procedures
You’ll be involved as much as you’d like, learning by doing and discovering what it takes to move between destinations under sail.

Late August offers classic Mediterranean conditions — warm days around 82–88°F (28–31°C), light to moderate easterly and southerly winds (10–18 knots), and mostly settled seas. Expect calm mornings, steady afternoon breezes, and warm water (78°F / 25°C) perfect for a swim after a day of sailing. Occasional Mistral winds may influence routing, adding dynamic sailing opportunities.
