BVI to Bermuda (9 Days)

Offshore Sailing Experience - 950NM / 9 Days

Details:

This classic offshore route, often called the “I-65 corridor,” takes us from the steady tradewinds of the Caribbean into the dynamic and variable weather systems of the North Atlantic. Beginning in the BVIs, we’ll spend time preparing the boat, reviewing systems, and waiting for a favorable weather window before pointing the bow toward Bermuda.

This passage is ideal for sailors looking to build offshore experience, log meaningful miles, and deepen their understanding of passage planning and weather routing. It’s also a chance to step away from connectivity, fall into the rhythm of the sea, and experience the power of open-ocean sailing.

  • This is a fully immersive, hands-on experience. You’ll stand watch, sail at night, and participate in every part of offshore life: navigation, weather analysis, sail changes, and systems checks. Training is tailored to your experience and interests. Common topics include:

    • Offshore weather forecasting and routing

    • Watchkeeping and night sailing

    • Sail trim and reefing

    • Radar and navigation

    • Safety and emergency protocols

    • Communication systems and offshore prep

  • You’ll board the boat in Tortola, with time to settle in and get familiar with the systems. Depending on weather, we may spend a day locally reviewing sails, handling, and systems. Once the window opens, we’ll set off across the open ocean toward Bermuda, typically a 5–7 day passage depending on conditions.

On arrival in St. George’s Harbor, you’ll have time to decompress, clear customs, and explore before disembarking.

  • Expect a wide range of conditions—this is the North Atlantic, after all. The early part of the trip typically brings consistent tradewinds, followed by a transition zone and variable systems as we approach Bermuda. We might see everything from light air to squalls, lulls to strong breeze. Sometimes it’s bouncy, sometimes it’s beautiful—that’s part of what makes ocean sailing so rewarding. We monitor weather closely and choose the safest and most strategic routing based on current forecasts.
